General information about Cookies and other tracking tools

Cookies are small text strings that websites visited by users send to their terminal devices, where they are typically stored in browsers. Examples of terminal devices are computers or smartphones, while the browser is the software for accessing websites such as Firefox, Safari or Google Chrome.

Cookies can perform a set of important functions, including session monitoring, storing information about specific configurations of users accessing servers, facilitating the use of online content, etc. For example, they can be used to keep track of items in an online shopping cart or of information used to fill in an electronic form.

The information collected via cookies can also be used to build a profile of the preferences expressed by users while browsing, in order, for example, to customise commercial promotion messages.

There are also other tools with which similar results can be achieved, so-called ‘passive’ means (as opposed to cookies which are considered ‘active’ means), based on reading the information already present in the user terminal device, such as the browser used or an identification code of the terminal device called ‘MAC address’; sometimes they are also referred to as ‘device finger printing’.

We will always use the term ‘cookies’ in this Policy, meaning all the aforementioned tools.

No consent can be required for ‘technical’ cookies, i.e., those that are technically necessary to perform the transmission of a communication over an electronic communication network or to provide a functionality explicitly requested by the user. On the other hand, consent is required for cookies that allow specific actions or recurring behavioural patterns to be traced back to specific identified or identifiable individuals, so that it is possible, for example, to modulate the provision of a service beyond that strictly necessary for the provision of the service itself or to send targeted advertising messages.

Moreover, in relation to cookies, a distinction is also made between ‘First-party’ cookies, which are those managed directly by the Publisher, i.e. the Controller of the website from which they are activated, and ‘Third-party’ cookies, which, although present on the Publisher’s website, are managed by other parties other than the Publisher. The meaning of the term “Third-party’” is reported in Section Definition in Privacy Policy

On our website, it is possible to have all the detailed information, and to decide whether or not to provide consent where necessary according to cookie legislation, through the Information Banner which is presented to users when they first access the website, and which they can access again as many times as they wish by clicking on the link/icon Cookie Preferences at the bottom of all the pages of the website, so that they can consult it again at any time and decide to modify their initial choices regarding cookies.

Below is a general explanation of cookies on our website and further information as provided.

Technical cookies used by this website

Technical cookies can have purposes such as:

  • authentication, validation and storage of specific technical information;
  • preference storage and website function optimisation.

Technical cookies include functionality cookies, which are used to provide a service requested by users of the website, for example to be able to purchase a product online and then put it in the virtual shopping cart: remember that they do not require user consent and are always active because, if disabled, it would become complex, if not impossible, for users to browse and interact with the contents of the website pages.

The list of technical cookies including functionality cookies used by our website, both ‘active’ and ‘passive’, can be found in the Banner that users were able to see on their first visit to this website and that they can always access again by clicking on the link/icon at the bottom of all the pages of the website.

Analytical cookies used by this website

Cookies may also be used to assess the effectiveness of a service provided through the website, to design/update pages of the website itself, or to help measure “traffic”, i.e., the number of visitors, also by geographic area, connection time or other characteristics.

These types of cookies (always including both ‘active’ and ‘passive’ ones) can be included among technical cookies, for which user consent is not required if data minimisation techniques are adopted that significantly reduce the power to identify a single individual among a multitude, should they be used by Third-parties. These techniques include masking an appropriate portion of the IP address connected to the user terminal that browses the website.

On our website, the use of these cookies is limited solely to the production of aggregate statistics, not allowing tracking of the browsing of the person using different applications or browsing different websites.

In addition, Third-parties who provide our website with this type of analytical cookie, are contractually required not to combine the data, even if minimised in this way, with other processing for their own purposes or to transmit it to other Third-parties.

The list of analytical cookies used by our website for which consent is not required since likened to technical cookies, both ‘active’ and ‘passive’, can be found in the Banner that users were able to see on their first visit to this website and that they can always access again by clicking on the link/icon at the bottom of all the pages of the website.

Profiling cookies used by this website

Profiling cookies make it possible to analyse the choices made by users when using the website, for example which pages of the website were viewed, which products were shown to be of interest (e.g.: product placed in the ‘shopping cart’ but then not purchased), in order to be able to then provide such users with targeted advertising, measure the effectiveness of the advertising message, or adapt the type and method of service provided through the website to the behaviour of users in previous visits to the website.

These types of cookies require the prior consent of users and, for this reason, the Banner that is shown to users on their first visit to this website, and which is always accessible again by clicking on the link/icon at the bottom of all the pages of the website, contains the procedures for providing it or otherwise, selectively for each type of cookie in the list, also broken down by Third-parties. Users can also ‘not make any choice’ or expressly indicate that they withhold consent to all profiling cookies, in which case. such cookies will not be activated, and users will still be able to continue to access and use the various functionalities of our website. It should be noted that these cookies may include analytical cookies, used, however, not in an aggregate way for statistical purposes as described in the previous section, but as profiling cookies that allow an individual in a multitude to be identified: for this reason, in this case, prior consent is required.

Showing the Banner again

On the first visit to the website, users are shown the Banner through which detailed information is provided and the procedures to express consent or otherwise are made available where required by law, selectively or in batch mode. Users can always subsequently access the Banner again by clicking on the link/icon at the bottom of all pages of the website, in order to review and possibly change their choices regarding consents.

Moreover, the Banner is subsequently shown again to users when they access our website in the presence of one of the following cases:

  • one or more processing conditions change significantly and therefore the Banner must be shown to provide updated information, for example because the Third-parties change;
  • it is impossible for us, as managers of the website, to be aware of the fact that a cookie has already been previously activated because, for example, users have subsequently chosen to delete all cookies legitimately installed on their terminal device using the specific functionalities made available to browsers (see below), so it is impossible for us to know whether such users had previously visited our website or not;
  • at least 6 months have passed since the Banner was previously shown, for those users who had not provided their consent.

Disabling/deleting cookies via the browser

The settings of the browser used by users to browse the web allow both the deletion as well as the possibility to prevent the installation of cookies on their terminal device (smartphone, personal computer).

Below is a list of web pages for the most popular browsers where specific instructions for disabling/deleting cookies at the browser level can be found:

Internet Explorer: http://windows.microsoft.com/it-it/internet-explorer/delete-manage-cookies#ie=ie-11

Data transfer outside the country

The data in question is usually processed in a national context. Where it is necessary to transfer data to a foreign country, we will proceed in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Exercise of privacy rights

Without prejudice to the possibility of managing cookies and related consents/withdrawals as described in the preceding paragraphs, users, as data subjects, have the right to ask our Company, as Controller, for access to their personal data and rectification or erasure of the same, limitation of processing that concerns them or to object to processing, as applicable case by case related to the request that they intend to make, which should be submitted  in to the Section “INDIVIDUAL PRIVACY RIGHTS AND CHOICES” of the Privacy Policy
